Dr. Lakhan is a former Professor in the Earth
and Environmental Sciences Department at the University of Windsor.
During his long academic career he specialized in the development of computer simulation
models, and the use of geographical information
systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) techniques
to study and predict the dynamics at work in coastal
and other natural environmental systems. Most of
his models and techniques (GIS and RS) were applied to the study and
management of environmental and natural resources.
Lakhan taught courses in resources
management, environmental impact assessment,
geographical information systems,
and remote sensing. As a Professor, he won numerous
Teaching Merit Awards. He won teaching awards from both
the Faculty of Social Science and the Faculty of Science. During his
teaching career, he supervised, co-read and examined more
than 100 undergraduate and graduate theses.
Lakhan has an extensive publication record in books, and national and
international journals. He authored several monographs
three for Elsevier Science Publishers, The Netherlands. He
also published more than 60 conference and refereed papers;
